MILDENAU – The Norafin Group’s Extra Organic team reports strong interest in its flax wallpaper ranges showcased at the Heimtextil home textiles show held in Frankfurt, Germany from January 9-12.
Norafin is the first manufacturer to transform nonwovens into a tear-resistant flax fleece wallpaper with a positive eco-balance, via hydroentanglement.
The flax nonwoven wallpaper is characterised by high UV resistance as well as heat-insulating and sound-absorbing properties due to naturally occurring air pockets. It is biodegradable due to its flax and cotton natural fibre construction and chemical-free production.
Norafin has been exploring the use of natural fibre nonwovens since the 1980s and subsequently developed a cooperation with a French producer of high-quality flax fibres, which led to the development of the wallpaper ranges.
The cultivation of flax, the company observes, requires considerably less water in comparison to other natural fibres and the plant does not make any demands on the soil and does not require fertilizer. It grows best in the coastal areas of Northern France, Belgium, and in parts of Northern Germany.
