Environmental news and technical innovation in the nonwovens sector

VILAMOURA – Back in 2010, Jacques Prigneaux, market analysis and economic affairs director for Brussels-based industry body EDANA, observed that following the tumultuous years of 2007-2009, absorbent hygiene products (AHPs) appeared to be recession proof.

At EDANA’s Outlook 2023 conference, which took place in Vilamoura, Portugal, from October 18-20, he assembled a panel of regional experts to assess if this still holds true now.

Per Brandberg of Euromonitor put the combined value of the global sales of baby diapers, femcare products, adult incontinence diapers and consumer wipes at around €90 billion in 2023, climbing to €100 billion by 2027. This amounts to almost 500 billion single-use units in 2023, rising at a CAGR of 2-3% annually to 600 billion in 2027.

Specifically in Europe, the AHPs market is worth around €14 billion, which equates to some 78 billion products.
