DORNBIRN – The mass customisation of manufacturing combines the personalisation of custom-made products with the low unit costs associated with mass production. As far as nonwovens are concerned, however, customisation is difficult with traditional processes.
Now Leeds, UK-based specialist in applied research and product development NIRI has developed a new mass customisation system for nonwovens, made possible by modular components and late-stage additive processes.
Speaking at the Dornbirn Global Manmade Fibre Conference held in Austria from September 11-13th, Matt Tipper, NIRI’s business director said that the key driver for mass customisation was the megatrend towards individualisation.
