BRADFORD – The Nonwovens Network UK will hold its 22nd Annual Seminar in Bradford, West Yorkshire, on June 26th, with speakers from both the UK and mainland Europe taking part.

High on the agenda will be the pressure that is currently being put on plastics and synthetic fibres in areas as diverse as microplastics in the oceans, wet-wipes in water systems and even consumer campaigns for natural teabags,

Returning speaker Dr Mark Sumner, lecturer in sustainability at University of Leeds (pictured) will bring delegates up to date on the latest plans being discussed in the UK and at EU level to reduce plastic waste and what this could mean for the future of the industry.

At last year’s seminar he warned that extended producer responsibility (EPR) would increasingly have to be factored in to the internal calculations of manufacturing companies as a result of global warming.

Luckily, innovation is alive in the nonwovens industry and the spotlight will also be on new developments throughout the day.

“So much is happening in the Industry that keeping up to speed is not only challenging but also extremely exciting,” says chairman Chris Wilkinson. “This year subjects range from algae and wool to graphene, bio and smart technologies, not forgetting the progress being made with nonwovens in fashion, as well as in machinery and processing. We look forward to seeing our dedicated members and associates again welcoming newcomers into the fold.”
