New Jersey bans added PFAS in diapers

Law will prohibit intentionally added PFAS in diaper products from 2028, adding compliance and disclosure obligations for manufacturers

TRENTON - New Jersey has become the latest US state to restrict per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in absorbent hygiene products, after Governor Mikie Sherrill signed Senate Bill S1281 into law on 27 August.

The legislation will prohibit the sale, manufacture and distribution of apparel and diaper products containing intentionally added PFAS from 2028. It applies to both disposable and reusable products manufactured to be worn to contain human waste.
