Demand for breathable polyethylene backsheet films is expected to rise as hygiene converters pursue thinner, softer and more breathable constructions

CALIFORNIA - The global market for breathable PE backsheet film used in absorbent hygiene products was valued at US$1.76 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach US$2.56 billion by 2032, representing a compound annual growth rate of 5.5% from 2026, a new report suggests.

Breathable PE backsheets are used as the outer barrier layer in baby diapers, adult incontinence products, sanitary napkins, menstrual pants and related disposable absorbent products. Their role is to prevent liquid leakage while allowing water vapour to pass through the structure, supporting wearer comfort and reduced skin occlusion.
