    DOST-PTRI is presenting natural fibre-based nonwoven technologies as part of a drive to diversify the Philippine textile sector into new industrial applications and sustainable materials

    Researchers are using agricultural residues such as banana pseudostems and pineapple leaves

    MANILA - The Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) is launching Onward: Philippine Nonwoven Textile Innovation in Manila, highlighting locally sourced natural fibre-based nonwoven textiles as alternatives to synthetic plastics in industrial and commercial applications.

    ONWARD brings together a portfolio of nonwoven developments based on agricultural residues such as banana pseudostems and pineapple leaves, as well as bamboo, water hyacinth and other regionally available fibres.
