Fresh delay for Carbios China PET biorecycling plant

Enzymatic PET biorecycling plant in Haining is now expected on stream by 2028, as Carbios and Wankai adjust timelines and capital commitments in China

Carbios’ patented process uses engineered enzymes to depolymerise PET back to its monomers

CLERMENT FERRAND - Carbios has confirmed that commissioning of its first PET biorecycling plant in China, being developed with Wankai New Materials in Haining, Zhejiang Province, is now expected in the first half of 2028.

The project is said to be a key step for scaling the company’s enzymatic PET recycling technology in Asian packaging and textile markets.
