WAUWATOSA - Bostik, the adhesive solutions division of Arkema, has launched the Nuplaviva i90 Hot-Melt Wetness Indicator, the latest step in furthering its ‘Responsibly for Hygiene’ commitment.

The Nuplaviva i90 is the third adhesive solution available as part of Bostik’s sustainability-focused Nuplaviva series of adhesives made with renewably sourced content. Nuplaviva c50 and c75 construction adhesives, made with 50% and 75% bio-sourced content respectively, launched the series in September 2021.

"Bostik’s Nuplaviva product line supports the growing need for manufacturers and their consumers of absorbent hygiene products to be more socially responsible. But it doesn’t stop there," explained Global Marketing Communications Manager, Paul Andrews. "Our Nuplaviva solutions are also designed with the exact needs of producers in mind: operational efficiency, creating consumer confidence, and supporting producers to meet their business goals."

Nuplaviva i90 is formulated with 90% bio-based content. Using renewable raw materials to create this series of adhesives, Bostik is enabling producers to reduce the carbon footprint of their products and dependence on fossil carbon. Both are important to achieving more sustainable operations and greater corporate social responsibility (CSR).

"Hot-melt wetness indicators are ideal solutions for quickly and clearly spotting when a diaper change is needed. They are important for protecting the skin wellness of babies and adults living with incontinence, especially those who are in hospital and institutional settings," added Andrews. "Nuplaviva i90 also exhibits superior resistance to humidity, preventing premature colour change. Not only does this help parents and caregivers be more efficient with their time, but it also reduces the amount of product waste and the unwelcome cost of unnecessary diaper changes."

Absorbent hygiene producers can further appreciate that Nuplaviva i90 performs well across a wide range of core wraps and superabsorbent polymer (SAP) ratios. This provides greater flexibility in the selection of core designs for enhanced consumer satisfaction.

Bostik has additional projects underway to expand the Nuplaviva series, including delivering adhesives with even higher levels of renewable content and products to serve other applications within absorbent diapers and pads. Each will be designed to improve resource conservation and support the absorbent hygiene industry’s sustainable product initiatives.
