MICHIGAN – A three-step process for recycling the superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) employed in the cores of absorbent hygiene products (AHPs) into useful adhesives has been developed by a research team working with Procter & Gamble.
The method, developed by Anne McNeil, professor of chemistry and macromolecular science and engineering at University of Michigan, and Takunda Chazovachii, who recently graduated from U-M with a doctoral degree in polymer chemistry, is said to be both energy-efficient and capable of being deployed on an industrial scale.
