Some 142,000 tonnes of carpet waste was diverted from landfill in 2016 to be reused, recycled or recovered for energy, according to latest Carpet Recycling UK (CRUK) figures. Much of the recovered waste is being turned into nonwovens for insulation, new carpet backing materials and other end uses.
