Alcantara – the Italian-made microfibre-based artificial leather that is synonymous with luxury car interiors – is taking the Chinese market by storm.

Sales by Milan-headquartered Alcantara SpA to China have climbed from just €736,000 in 2012 to €5.6 million in 2013 and to €13.1 million in 2014, with no sign of demand abating.

The world car industry is experiencing a period of major change and evolution, the company notes, with emerging markets growing and market players going through a gradual process of consolidation and globalisation.
