BBIAThe UK has the opportunity to develop a domestic bio-plastics industry able to generate £2 billion of gross value added to the economy, with a local production of 120,000 tonnes, considering just flexible and food-service packaging, according to a new study presented by the Bio-based and Biodegradable Industries Association (BBIA) at the House of Lords.

Spunbonded nonwoven shopping bags, primarily based on polypropylene or polyester, are ubiquitous throughout Asia and the Far Pacific, due to their robustness. This predicted growth provides a good opportunity for bio-based nonwovens to make a mark in this area.
