RKW reports high demand for its viral barrier film-to-nonwoven laminate for surgical gowns during MEDICA – the world’s largest medical fair show, which took place in Dusseldorf from November 12-15.

Having launched Medicace G82 as a barrier product which is not only fully breathable but also impervious to viruses and blood-borne pathogens at Index 2014 in Geneva earlier this year, interest in the laminate was already high, both from brand owners and convertors of surgical gowns. The recent Ebola crisis has, not surprisingly, provoked an immediate and more urgent demand for this product.

Medicace G82 complements its sister product, G72, a breathable barrier laminate for gowns that are worn during long periods of time. The added value of G82 is that it offers not only a bacteria barrier but also a viral barrier, to be worn in the most difficult of situations.

“While we were prepared for high demand, we did not envisage such heavy traffic on our stand for discussions on Ebola” says Sophie Litt, RKW Medical Films sales manager. “As a result, we have imme-diately introduced this product into our Industrial portfolio for protec-tive workwear.”
