Norafin (Americas), based in Asheville, North Carolina, has received the $5,000 2014 Industrial Fabrics Foundation (IFF) Innovation Award for the development of its Komanda nonwovens.
The Komanda range of performance engineered nonwoven materials deliver significant advantages over traditional textile materials currently used in arc flash protection and flame resistant protective clothing.
Norafin’s materials offer up to three times the level of protection of similar materials of the same weight. As a stand-alone material, or in layered or laminated constructions, Komanda elevates the level of protection and comfort that can be offered to the arc flash protective clothing market.
Honorable award mentions went to Fabric Images, for its The Pure Tension Volvo Pavilion project, Vacu-Wash USA for its Vacu-Wash sail cleaning technology and Watershed Geosynthetics for HydroTurf advanced revetment materials.
The IFF is a non-profit organisation dedicated to education and research in speciality fabrics and recently held the Specialty Fabrics Expo and Advanced Textiles Expo, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where the award was presneted.
