At this week’s Composites Engineering show in Birmingham, UK, PGI is launching a new range of thermoplastic veils which address the need for a visually superior finish on thermoplastic reinforced plastic parts.

Commonly used in transport and leisure applications, PGI’s thermoplastic veils allow manufacturers to use lightweight material for strength, stiffness and impact resistance while maintaining high quality, repairable surfaces.

Thermoplastic veils employ a matrix structure that includes a nonwoven layer to screen the reinforcing fibere from the surface, with a polymer layer creating a visually superior finish. PGI’s broad range of capabilities and technical expertise in this area help customers succeed in the development of new and exciting specialty materials.

“Being able to add a new range of thermoplastic veils to the composites portfolio enables PGI to offer product not only within the thermoset market space, but reach customers producing thermoplastic based products,” said Nic Hunt, PGI’s business development director.

Composites and fibre reinforced plastic manufacturers have been using PGI’s high-performance materials in their solutions for aerospace, construction and marine industries for many years.

    The company’s existing range includes:

    • Matline+ cores – flexible ‘bulky’ nonwovens used to reduce mass and resin content.
    • Reemay surface veils which improve surface characteristics in filament winding, pultrusion and moulding processes.
    • Bleeder/breather and infusion net products.
