Ahlstrom’s latest Pleat2Save HVAC air filter has a patent pending depth structure that is not just based on moving from a thicker to a thinner web structure in its construction.
Speaking at the recent EDANA Filtrex conference in Berlin, Ina Parker, product manager for the company’s Advanced Filtration business, said the structure of Pleat2Save was highly engineered but declined to elaborate further due to the patent pendng situation.
The media consists of a combination of synthetic fibres and glass and does not involve laminations, but is manufactured as a single web via a wet-laid process.
The key value proposition of Pleat2Save, Parker said, was in its robustness – it has a tensile strength around 2.5 times higher than microglass alternatives – allowing for excellent processeing performance during the pleating.
The media is generally thermoformable and has another advantage in pleated form, in that the strips of glue that are generally spaced at 25mm apart to consolidated such structures can be widened to 50mm with no significant change in performance and no flow issues. This results in significant savings in adhesive.
Pleat2Save complements Ahlstrom’s Flow2Save media range which was introduced a year ago, and has now been widened for filter performance classes F7 to F9 and E11-H14.
Buildings continue to be responsible for 40% of all energy usage, and the improved pressure drop and performance of these new filter products can cut the energy demanded by HVAC systems by up to 30%.
