With a further investment of $200 million on top of the $100 million announced only in April this year, the BMW/SGL joint venture in Moses Lake, Washington, USA, is intending to rapidly become the world’s largest carbon fibre manufacturing plant in the world by early 2015.

This promises terrific opportunities for nonwovens producers to become involved in a new supply chain in which nonwovens are the only currently-viable option for dealing with carbon fibre and fabric production waste.

New automated production processes are making it possible for BMW to plan applying carbon fibre material to its other model series beyond the recently-launched i electric vehicles in the near future – at competitive costs and in large quantities.
