Researchers at Harvard’s Wyss Institute have developed a degradable bioplastic isolated from chitosan, the chitin in shrimp shells.
The majority of available chitin – a long-chain polysaccharide –comes from discarded shrimp shells and is either thrown away or used in fertilizers, cosmetics, or dietary supplements.
