The acquisition of Brazil’s Companhia Providencia by PGI (Polymer Group) announced this week brings the consolidation of the global spunmelt nonwovens industry for hygiene to an unprecedented new level.

It further accelerates PGI’s global growth strategy just two months after it completed the aquisition of Fiberweb to become the world’s largest nonwovens producer. This is an interesting turn of events, given that PGI’s main competitor in the Americas is Brazil’s Fitesa, which has previously consumed all of the hygiene-related activities of what was, just a couple of years ago, a much larger Fiberweb.
