    airKimberly-Clark Professional of Roswell, Georgia, USA, has introduced a range of industrial wipes specifically manufactured for use in the aviation industry.

    Kimtech Wipes are based on hydroentangled nonwovens made of polypropylene, polyester, rayon and cellulose, with all constructions keeping the levels of lint and residues of extractable agents generated low and performing better than the dominant wipe used in the industry – cotton rags.

    The products satisfy the demands of the Aerospace Material Specification (AMS) 3819C and the Boeing Material Specification (BMS) 15-5F.

    Designed for use by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and for maintenance and repair, such as preparing surfaces for painting, engine maintenance and general-purpose cleaning, they are available in four categories:
    •    Kimtech A2 aviation abrasive surface preparation wipes are designed for abrasive surfaces, such as riveted metals. They have a low risk of contamination when used on rough surfaces and can be used for pre-cleaning, degreasing, wiping off solvents and the removal of excess sealants.
    •    Kimtech P2 and P3 aviation surface preparation wipes are highly absorbent, and made to keep the levels of lint and residues of extractable agents low.
    •    Kimtech C2, C3 and C4 aviation cleaning wipes are intended as a cheaper alternative to the reusable rags used for general tasks such as cleaning, post-paint stripping and wiping, drying surfaces after they are rinsed with water, wiping away solvents, removal of excess sealant, cleaning of oil and grease, and wiping tools;
    •    Kimtech W aviation wet wipes are disposable, pre-saturated wipes supplied in an air-tight, sealed system. The sealing technology offers benefits over conventional bucket and decanter systems, reducing solvent losses from evaporation and therefore waste caused by wipes drying out, and lowering the exposure of workers to volatile organic compounds (VOCs); Kimberly-Clark says the system lowers solvent use by 20%.

    The products carry an alpha-numeric, performance-tier identification system intended to make it easy for technicians to identify the right product for each specific task.
