texelTexel claimed first prize in Canada’s NOVAE 2013 Ecodesign Contest for its Ecoduo range of nonwovens made from 95% recycled or regenerated fibres.

The nonwovens are the main component in chair floor protectors and subfloors and have been made for several years from new materials.

Texel has now been able to develop an entirely new, much more environmentally friendly range without comprising either the performance or the appearance of the final result when compared to the original.

The company, based in Saint-Elzéar-de-Beauce in Québec, has also reworked other aspects of its product range, eliminating the use of LDPE plastic wrap in its new packaging and phasing out the cardboard tubing used to transport the rolls.

“The project inspired a lot of internal reflection that has now opened the way for further development initiatives in ecological product design, in line with Texel’s objective to show its commitment to social and environmental responsibility,” said marketing manager François Bourgault at the recent awards evening in Montreal.
