Toyobo is expanding the range of products made with its new process for plant-derived PET to nonwovens, having initially introduced a range of films in 2011.
The Japanese company is using ethylene glycol derived from sugarcane to replace a portion of the petroleum-derived raw material required and says it is achieving the same physical properties and quality.
The new materials are being marketed under the brand name Bio-Volans and the company is anticipating annual sales of 500 tons by 2015.
