ahlsus1A solid set of results is recorded by Ahlstrom in its just-published 2011 Sustainability Report.

The company’s use of  renewables climbed to 87% of the total 1,228,000 tons of raw materials purchased, with a value of €923 million. These were turned into 1,110,673 tons of product which achieved sales of €1,607 million – reflecting a very lean and efficient global manufacturing structure.

“The comparable renewable raw materials figure for a petrochemicals-based materials supplier would be around 20 per cent,” notes president and CEO Jan LÃ¥ng, “and by applying the principles of green chemistry to our product design and manufacture we hope to further improve our performance.”
