India’s Aditya Birla plans to set up a new viscose staple fibre plant in Adana, Turkey.
The world’s leading viscose fibre player will invest US$500 million over the next five years to set up the operation, which will have an annual capacity of 180,000 tons, with captive power, CS2 and sulphuric acid plants.
Birla’s cellulosic fibres are natural and biodegradable and characterised by high absorbency. The latest introduction from the company, Purocel, is a hollow, chlorine and zinc-free and anti-bacterial fibre, which is highly pure and specially suited for nonwovens for wipes, personal hygiene, baby care, sanitary items, medical and household end-uses.
