Environmental news and technical innovation in the nonwovens sector

Estonian energy company Eesti Energia has placed a major order with Germany’s BWF Envirotec for 30,000 filter bags to be used for flue gas cleaning at the Eesti Power Plant – the biggest oil shale fired power plant in the world.

Estonia is rich in high quality oil shale deposits which are mainly to be found in the north east of the country. The production of liquid fuels, power and heat from oil shale is a major economic factor in this region and Eesti Narva power plants generate over 90% of the electricity produced in Estonia.

With around 7,000 employees, Eesti Energia has its largest power stations running on oil shale near the city of Narva close to the Russian border, covering the energy requirements of more than 500,000 customers. The organisation gives utmost priority to compliance with environmental constraints and safety requirements and has allocated the contract for complete replacement equipment with filter bags for the flue gas cleaning of the major power plant to BWF Envirotec.
