Pictured are researchers working on the EcoLASTANE European Commission 7th Framework Programme project.  Their aim is to develop the technology for producing bio-based synthetic  fibres from biomass-derived furanic monomers.

It is planned that both elastane and polyester will be produced by optimising an industrial technology which produces 100% bio-based chemicals –furfural, HMF, THF and FDCA – from lignocellulosic feedstocks such as wood and crop residues.
