The roof module of the new Smart Fortwo standard model consists of a paper honeycomb and two surrounding glass fibre nonwoven mats.
In series production, these are sprayed in an impregnation process with BASF’s Elastoflex E 3532 low-density, thermally activable PU foam and pressed together with a solid-coloured class-A film. This is believed to be the first exterior car part featuring a honeycomb sandwich structure with a class-A film.
