COLOGNE – Ahlstrom launched its new heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) filter media portfolio at the recent Filtech exhibition in Cologne, Germany, from February 14-16.

The range is being produced on the company’s brand-new production machine in Turin, Italy, providing media with the highest performance reliability in addition to a lower environmental impact. The range includes grades from ISO Coarse 85% to ISO ePM1 80% rating according to ISO16890:2016 in standard and high permeability versions for the most challenging requirements. All products have limited flow restriction and extended dust holding capacity with enhanced consistency.

“The need for high quality HVAC filter media for demanding end-uses is growing as people have become increasingly aware of the impact of good air quality to their health,” said says Tamara Quatrano, the company’s VP of R&D and filtration product development. “Today, people are spending over 90% of their time inside buildings, making it even more critical to have an efficient filtration system to purify air and remove contaminants. To reduce environmental impact, another major target is to develop filtration materials that extend the lifetime and reduce the energy consumption of filter elements. Our new HVAC range guarantees reliability and protection and contributes to lower environmental impact through longer filter life and lower energy consumption.”

The company also showcased its FiltEV platform of reliable filtration solutions for battery and fuel cell electric vehicles in Cologne, building on a deep knowledge of the automotive industry.

The platform includes a new generation of cabin air filter media delivering higher efficiency on fine particles (HEPA), microorganisms and harmful gases and a premium range of transmission oil media for suction and pressure filters, delivering better protection of the powertrain and longer lifetime. In addition, a complete portfolio of air and liquid filter media provide thermal management to ensure reliability and extended performances in the cooling unit, while modular of fuel cell air intake filter media provide protection against fine particles to the circuits and the catalyst.

To complement FiltEV, Ahlstrom has also introduced Forticell, a new product platform designed for energy storage applications, covering a complete portfolio of firer-based materials for the lead acid battery industry, in addition to new solutions for lithium ion batteries.
