SHANGHAI – Leading wet wipes manufacturer American Hygienics Corporation (AHC), which marked its 20th anniversary in November, has developed a range of products based on its patented Bamboo Pulp Absorbent technology.

AHC’s absorbent layers based on crushed bamboo pulp can comprise up to 43% of a total diaper’s weight and the company holds three patents on bamboo-based products, two of which are applicable for diapers, relating to the crushing of the bamboo pulp and the construction of three layered cores with bamboo pulp in their centre.

The third patent relates to the airlaid conversion of the bamboo pulp for use in feminine care pads. All of the company’s bamboo pulp comes from certified Organic and FSC certified farms.

“We are increasingly using sustainable materials as much as we can, to make products less petrochemical based, yet with higher performance,” said said Neal Parmar, founder and CEO of AHC.

The company is also producing 40% bio content films for diaper bags which are certified by TUV Austria as OK Biobased.

Bamboo and OK Biobased mixed-material finished products are now being sold under different brands across 20+ different countries in North America, the EU and Asia Pacific, the company reports.

“AHC is supported by a strong technical team and experts and our product development department continuously evaluates and optimises our product portfolio in terms of product uniqueness and performance,” said Paul Chandrachur, head of green business and product development. “There are many so-called bamboo diapers on the market, but in reality they are conventional wood pulp based diapers with probably less than 6% bamboo content in the entire product.

“We test our products both in-house and in industry-recognised laboratories using the latest test methods and equipment, with a focus on validating our claims and sample preparation to ensure reliable results.”

Established in 2001 as a wholly foreign-owned enterprise, AHC is a specialist in the contract and private label manufacturing of wet wipes, with exports to over 75 countries and an annual wet wipes output capacity of up to a billion units.

The company now boasts two integrated factories in Shanghai and Zhejiang, China, with over 40 production lines and 800 employees.
